SXSW and any large conference or convention center is a great time to network and look for a new job opportunity. Outside of great sessions like these and many parties and networking mixers, there are a handful of specific job search and career related events. Personally, I recommend looking for HR and recruiting related events or sessions that are specifically focused on your industry, type of job you want or a place where your future boss might frequent or go. This is the best way to network and find a new job by cutting through the noise and the sometimes complicated and long application and go directly to the source. More importantly, this means not going where your job search friends are who are also in reality your competition. Go out there. Attend events out of your comfort zone and channel your inner HR guy, gal or boss man or lady.

Thankfully, SXSW and the related events offer a number of career related events. Here are some of my favorites you should put on your calendar if you are actively looking for full time or contract work during South by South West this year.

  • The Digital Creative Job Market is a 2 day event on Thursday and Friday from 10A-6P inside the convention and visitor’s bureau ballrooms A,B & C. It’s free and open to the public even though it’s inside the convention center. Click here to obtain a visitor pass to attend if you don’t have an interactive badge.  Click here to learn more about the event & what employers are attending.
  • The Pursuit of Awesome Jobs: Hiring Fairs for Vets. This one has a special place in my heart especially since we just hosted a webinar on veteran & military recruiting (access here). Also free to the public with SX badges not required. Tuesday, March 11 from 11A-7P at Brass House Tavern at San Jacinto Blvd. Register here & be sure to donate to support this awesome cause.
  • Tech Career Expo. These event is a great one in its third year and has 60+ companies being represented. March 8 & 9 from 11A-4PM at Fogo de Chao at 309 E. 3rd St. Free to the public with no SXSW badge required. Register here.
  • Funemployment Screening & Event. Featuring Austin startups. March 8 from 4-8P. VIPs film a scene 4-5P. Cocktails and networking 5-8P.  Geisha Room 422 Congress Ave. Register here.
