You might be contemplating a career change in 2016 and you are not alone. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that voluntary separations from employers are at their highest levels since 2008. Because of how closely tied to the hiring process for our respective organizations as human resources and recruiters, we often are the last to consider our own job search, career plan or professional development. I think it’s time we change that.
Episode 68: Career Advice and Development for Human Resources and Recruiting
I consider career advice and development for HR and recruiting practitioners a form of self-care and one we should be considering in 2016. In this special podcast episode I talk with two career experts who work in the career coaching and resume writing space. These experts include Chris Fields of ResumeCrusade.com and Dawn Raussmeson of PathfinderCareers.com.
Both Chris and Dawn offer fresh perspectives on the personal development and job search strategies for the HR and recruiting practitioner. Chris discussed the power of social media and steps to take when passively dip your into the job search waters. Dawn shared great insights in how HR and recruiting professionals can transition into either new and expanded roles as well as different industry verticals. For example, moving from oil and gas to manufacturing or tech. What you can do to plan, build relationships and how to develop your job search marketing materials to help showcase your valuable skills, abilities and experiences.
Jump Start Your Career Goals, Job Search and Development in 2016
Even if you are actively looking for a new job in 2016 or not, I believe that we should always be on the lookout for new business and professional opportunities no matter how secure or comfortable we feel in our current jobs. Marketplaces change and businesses do to. Human resources and recruiters need to be working to expand their own personal development, networks and continuing to build relationships because you never know what tomorrow brings or what new and amazing opportunity you might encounter in opening yourself up to the possibilities.
I urge you to take a look and consider your own personal career goals whether they are with your current employer or a new one. Make a list, build a path to get there and establish some milestones along the way. Connect with Dawn Raussmeson on LinkedIn and Chris Fields on LinkedIn. Check out this episode of the podcast and get thinking about your job and careers goals for the next 6, 12, 24 and 36 months.
