What’s the Difference Between the SPHR and the SHRM-SCP?

What is the SPHR?

The SPHR, or Senior Professional in Human Resources designation, is issued by the HR Certification Institute (HRCI). The SPHR demonstrates your mastery of the strategic and policy-making aspects of HR management as practiced in the U.S. The credential is designed for big-picture thinkers responsible for planning rather than implementing HR policy.

What is the SHRM-SCP?

The SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) is the certification for HR professionals who develop strategies, lead the HR function, foster influence in the community, analyze performance metrics, and align HR strategies to organizational goals. The SHRM-SCP is issued by the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).

What is the Difference Between the SHRM-SCP and the SPHR?

Both the SPHR and the SHRM-SCP are certifications in human resources (HR), although they are provided by separate certifying bodies and have slightly different objectives.

The SPHR is generally more focused on HR policy and administration, whereas the SHRM-SCP is more focused on leadership and corporate strategy. Both certificates, nevertheless, are valued in the HR sector and can aid HR workers in advancing their careers. The decision between the two will be based on a person’s career objectives and the particular skills and information they wish to acquire.
