Top 25 List of Twitter Hashtags for Human Resources & HR

hash tags, twitter, social media, hr

Obviously, I’m a fan of social media and online engagement whether you are building relationships or establishing a presence with employees, candidates, or potential customers and clients.  It’s no longer enough to tweet or post a blog.  One must use careful strategy, tools, and experience to reach the right people at the right place and at the right time.

Hashtags are a great way to increase your reach by self-selecting keywords or filing them like a self-managed Dewey Decimal System. To learn more about what exactly Twitter hashtags are.  This is why I wanted to share with you today the top 25 Twitter hashtags in HR and Human Resources as determined by SocialEars.  The order in which the Twitter hashtags list is displayed is by popularity among industry influencers and is based on tweets within the last 30 days as of February 3, 2012.

The Top 10 List of Twitter Hashtags for HR

This group combined for a total of 24,957 mentions on Twitter.  Keep in mind that there are a billion tweets sent every 4 days on the microblogging site

Twitter Hashtags List for Human Resources 11-25

Hashtags on Twitter 11-25 account for nearly 6,300 mentions via Twitter.  When combined, that is nearly 33,000 tweets.  My friends, that is a lot of tweeting.  Not all of these hash tags are HR specific.  For example, #CES for a technology and electronics show held every year in January while #USGuys is a marketing community on Twitter.  Many of us mix between the two worlds as HR and recruiting have many similarities to marketing and PR.

And there you have it. . . the top 25 hashtags on Twitter for HR and Recruiting as reported by HR Marketer’s new social tool, SocialEars.  Do you have a favorite hash tag?  Please feel free to share.

Great, updated list Jessica. Sorry #hrpuckheads and #bacon did not make the cut. 🙂
Another new one to add is #SHRMCHAT

Thanks. It will be interesting to see how things trend month over month. I anticipate that #shrm12 will also make its way into the top 25 in the next 60-90 days. #shrmchat will gain in popularity. Did you realize that SHRM’s We Know Next has started their own chat as well, #NextChat?

Thanks for recognizing #TChat The World of Work on your list. We’ve really enjoyed sharing our chat weekly for the past year. So many lessons learned and interesting connections made. I’m also involved with #HRTechChat – Will be sharing more news on this front soon.

Social Ears is a great tool btw. Our TC team uses it weekly for SM “listening” – so important.

Love our Social HR Community and honored to be among many awesome friends, colleagues here. It Rocks….You Rock.

The numbers don’t lie. I like this tool it points to where the conversations in our space are happening online. It doesn’t account for emerging hash tags before they happen. We’ll just have to continue to keep our eyes and ears open for that. Thanks for the comment.

Just wanted to follow Meghan’s comment by saying that she and others closely affiliated have been hugely instrumental in helping us to launch this chat to such great fanfare and reception. Today’s ranking was a very pleasant surprise, a wonderful way to cap off a particularly exciting week. We’re flattered and grateful to be working with so many very smart people — and work hard every day to bring value to the HR community online! And I have to echo her thoughts on SocialEars, too. in a world where the word “innovation” is often bandied about loosely, HRmarketer’s new tool really is an innovative solution.

Thanks for the comment, Brent and the conversation today. #HRtechchat in my mind is definitely one that is needed in the space and really makes sense. I’m excited to see how it continues to develop.

Great compilation, Jessica – thanks! As Lyn and you both mentioned, I hope we see #SHRMchat evolve into something greater in the coming months. I am hoping that #SHRM12 will give us a big boost in that regard because I have some plans to do a chat from Atlanta.

I didn’t even know about #HRtechchat and that’s going to be on my radar, too.

No wonder my ass is spreading – I need to learn to compute standing up. 😉

      Hi Joan,

You are right. I’m looking forward to evaluating the changes as they happen in our space with the ebb and flow on social media. #shrm12 should be fun and I have some new analytics tools that I’m looking forward to using in the coming months. Thanks for the comment and I’m looking forward to #shrmchat on Tuesday night.
