HR administrative tasks and responsibilities are something that those of us working in the human resources industry cannot avoid. I often found it difficult to be seen as a strategic business partner when one minute I was talking with my team about employee file organization and I-9 forms and the next discussing our five-year long term strategic talent and growth planning for my company.
The ability to shift between administrative and strategic responsibilities is a challenge for most business leaders including HR teams. For me, it was an ongoing struggle to find balance between the two. How do I prioritize these two important pieces of HR? How do I do my job of being forward thinking and strategic while making sure my department remained in compliance but not solely focused on these administrative tasks?
That’s a question that HR practitioners struggle with every single day.
HR as a Strategic Business Unit
One solution to maximize the time and efforts of your HR team is using an outsource PEO model. PEO stands for professional employer organization and is a type of HRO or human resource outsourcing. It is an outsourced HR model where you work with a company to manage the administrative responsibilities of HR so you can get to the business of being strategic about HR and thus, operating as a strategic and aligned business unit with the rest of the company.
One HR outsource company that has caught my eye is TriNet(TNET). TriNet Passport seamlessly combines technology with the traditional PEO model using a secure cloud platform. This allows HR teams regardless of size to be nearly paperless with immediate access to HR tools and resources they need to do their job.
TriNet allows companies to tap into TriNet’s four tiers of HR and business experts including: Human Capital Director, Human Capital Consultant, Account Services Consultant and Employee Solution Center. One of my favorite features of TriNet’s technology (mobile screenshot pictured on the right) is the mobile app allowing business partners access to reports, time sheets, documents and information anywhere and at anytime with a mobile device. I like the mobile features because it allows your HR team to be nearly paperless with immediate access to HR tools and resources they need to do their job.
Benefits of an Outsourced HR Model
The outsourcing model is a decision I’ve made within my own personal life and family. I’ve outsourced pieces of my life to experts who specialize in certain tasks and type of work so that I can focus on things like time with my family and my job. I outsource housework to my housekeeper once a week, a contractor to help with our master bedroom remodel and the lawn service to tackle the jungle that is my backyard. Outsourcing these activities and tasks to the experts allows me to maximize my time and energy in a way that fits with the time constraints of my life.
TriNet’s technologies and services let you, the HR business partner get back to the business of being strategic and building an engaged and empowered workforce while they get their hands dirty in the trenches of HR, payroll, benefits administration and day to day. I did. We used to use Gevity for my wife’s biz before TriNet bought them. They offered some great tech for small biz owners
