Top 10 Things to do in Chicago

Chicago has something for everyone – museums, gardens, sports, and bars. Whether you’re looking for a night out on the town or a quiet evening – Chicago has it all. Blogging4Jobs has come up with the Top 10 Things to do in Chicago to help create a more memorable trip.

  1. Chicago Architecture Foundation – One of the greatest things I have done in Chicago is taking a tour with the Chicago Architecture Foundation. You can spend as little as two hours or a half a day (don’t tell your boss!) sightseeing around Chicago and learning about 60 different architecture sites around Chicago. This tour is available by walking, taking a boat ride, or a bus ride.
  2. Sears Tower – Who knew waiting in long lines just to travel up 103 flights would be a worth it. The skydeck located on the 103rd floor offers spectacular views of Lake Michigan and Chicago’s impressive skyline. If you don’t have time for the wait the John Hancock Center and Observatory offers similar breathtaking views.
  3. Second City – Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean that the fun has to stop. Visiting this historic comedy club where legends such as Bill Murray, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Tina fey, Amy Poehler and much more launched their careers.
  4. Millennium Park – I’ve been to Chicago quite a few times in my life, even living there for a few years when I was younger and the one thing I remember is Millennium Park. This is one of those attractions that everyone needs to experience at least once.
  5. Wrigley Field – Well, even though the Cubs won’t be playing during SHRM13, Wrigley Field is still something that everyone should go see. It’s one of the most historic baseball fields in the nation.
  6. Art Institute of Chicago – One of the most impressive collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in the country. Visit the Art Institute of Chicago to get cultured during your visit. Even if you’re not a fan of paintings this Institute has a famous collection of artifacts as well. You can spend as much time as you want here for under $20.
  7. Magnificent Mile – Looking to shop till you drop? Visit the Magnificent Mile. This is one of the most premier shopping locations in the world. Located near North Michigan Avenue, this is the place to be when wanting to do some shopping in Chicago.
  8. Artis’s Lounge – This is one of the places you must visit Sunday or Monday if you’re a lover of all things blues. This is an iconic place for those who want to feel warm blues music with a friendly neighborhood character.
  9. The John G. Shedd Aquarium and Oceanarium – With over 90,000 gallons of reef on display if you’re a lover of animals and fish this is the place to be. Listed as the most visited aquarium in the world, it must be something worth seeing.
  10. Lincoln Park Zoo – Staying in the same “lover of animals” attraction, the Lincoln Park Zoo hosts the Great Ape House, which is one of the best assemblages of gorillas and chimpanzees in the world is a must see attraction. It’s also one of the last free zoos in the world.

Whether you’re coming a few days early to see more attractions or you’re coming just for the conference, take some time and visit some of these must see attractions. You won’t be disappointed in what Chicago has to offer.

What attractions are you looking forward to seeing?

Us Chicago companies are excited to be hosting SHRM this year! As a native Chicagoan I am impressed with your list of things to do. Heads up – your SHRM Party Guide is a bad link, looking forward to that coming out though.
