Why does it Matter?

Millenials in the Workforce:  The WSJ journal and other sources report that by 2020 over 40% of the workforce will be of the millenial generation.  There has been no shortage of articles analyzing the disconnect between these young employees and the workforce they are entering.  From using social media on the job to making rapid career changes millenials in the workforce pose many new challenges for employers and at the same time bring many new opportunities.  Forbes has asked questions about milleials ranging from; should all community managers should be under 25 to are millenials underemployed because they are lazy? With the workforce makeup rapidly changing, answers to questions about how to work with millenials in the workforce are increasing in importance.

For many companies internship programs are a valuable laboratory to start developing new strategies to better incorporate these younger employees into their organizations and culture.  Some companies are offering their interns the opportunity to rotate between multiple departments to better satisfy a growing entrepreneurial mindset amongst millenials.  Other companies are letting students work from home or at a coffee shop on select days to appeal to their desire for greater independence.  Others are beginning to let students tweet and use Facebook while on the job.  Decisions like these are starting to have more and more of an impact on a company’s talent pool.

The goal of the State of the Internship Report is to better understand both millenials in the workforce and employers and where the biggest disconnects lie.  Exploring how companies of different sizes, search for, hire, and manage interns, as well as how increasingly tech savvy students are going about searching for positions is critical to moving the conversation forward for HR experts.  Please take the survey below and spend no more than 2 minutes sharing some anonymous data about your internship program.  If you take it now you will get VIP Early Bird Access to the results at no cost.  Thanks for your help!
