PeopleMatter launched their latest product, Schedule, in Charleston, South Carolina this week and I was fortunate enough to be in attendance.  Schedule, like all of PeopleMatter’s products, is geared towards the restaurant, convenience store, and hospitality industries.  Schedule serves as a multi-unit employee scheduling tool that solves some of the biggest challenges that retail and hourly workers face because of their ever-changing schedules by taking advantage of the one thing a 62% of 18-24 year olds have a smartphone.  Nielson’s Mobile Smartphone Penetration Data released this week tells us that 81% of these new smartphones purchased by this demographic have happened in the last 3 months.  The 18-24 year old age group also happens to be hospitality’s target workforce demographic.

Online Employee Scheduling, Hospitality & Restaurant Human Resources

I have never seen anything like it.  To say that I was blown away during the product launch was an understatement.  I was left literally speechless as Nate DaPore, PeopleMatter‘s 34 year old CEO finished out the product launch casually sitting in one of the comfy stage chairs demonstrating D live for the hundreds attending and watching via live stream to see.

PeopleMatter’s pricing is not based on employee headcount numbers but on locations which is also why they fit so well in the hopsitality and restaurant industries particularly the franchise market.   Be sure to check out PM’s newest platform service, Schedule for yourself.  I promise you will be impressed.

As a former retail HR manager, each week myself or my general manager would be responsible for forecasting the sales for my facility or facilities and depending on the size of the location I would use either paper and pencil to create my employee schedule or cumbersome retail scheduling and forecasting tools like SmartWorks circa 2001.  I literally spent 4-6 hours per location editing, updating, and correcting the schedule before it was finally posted typically on Thursday at noon less than 72 hours before the next work week began.

Once the schedule was posted employees would rush to the break room, grabbing a paper and pencil to copy down their own schedule. Schedules often got lost and switching shifts involved a paper procedural dance between two employees and manager before I, as the HR Manager, made the approved shift changes in the scheduler.

Online Employee Scheduling Software for Mobile Devices

Scheduler by PeopleMatter solves all these problems leveraging the power of mobile HR technology, and in a way I never imagined.    The scheduling tool forecasts from the location computer quickly based on previous sales and peak time history, and managers can also create pre-determined rules depending on company policies or state scheduling requirements.  Once the schedule is posted, employees can view their individual schedule using their personal mobile device by downloading a free employee scheduling tool app from mobile stores like iTunes for apple as well as Blackberry and Android app stores.   Employees log in and can see their schedules without the hassle of driving to the facility location or the run the risk of losing their schedule.

Shift changes are also seamless.  If an employee needs to make a schedule change, they send a request to their manager who approves and the shift opening is sent to eligible employees directly to their own mobile devices.  An employee interested in picking up a new shift see the shift opening and responds directly the manager again who would approve or disapprove the request.

But what about employees who do not have smartphone and tablet devices?  Well, PeopleMatter’s Schedule solves that too and in grand fashion.  Employees can call a number and enter a personal pin to be directed to ‘D’—a Siri-like voice activated scheduler assistant.  Employees can ask D their schedule for tomorrow, next week and even request shift changes and time off requests.

  1. Regarding this review, yes it seems like a great product and any owner of such companies would love to have this program. But, as a part time customer service representative and the company I work for is using this program now. I have dealt with nothing but problems with Peoplematter’s tech support and Peoplematter’s customer service.
I am a younger college student and of course have a Galaxy S2 smartphone. As I downloaded the Peoplematter app, I have never been able to login to it. I have been E-mailing the peoplematter help for the last week now, and still have not been able to enter my application. The app keeps telling me that my E-mail or password is incorrect but, I am able to login just fine into their website on my personal computer just fine, which only brings up my name and where I work. It does not show me my schedule or how to request days off or anything else they say they offer. I have told them about this in my repeated E-mails and they have not even touched base with me on that problem. As well as not getting into the app they just keep telling me to uninstall and reinstall the app and then change my password and I have done all of those things before I even contacted them and told them that in my first E-mail but they just keep sending me E-mails asking me to do things I have already done. My first E-mail response and everyone after that, from them, was by somebody who was very rude and treated me like I was stupid. So for a company who represents customer service, I do not recommend.

  2. Hi Mandy,
This is Mark Deaton with PeopleMatter. Thank you for your candor about what was a very frustrating experience. I know we’ve resolved the issue, and you and I spoke last week, but I wanted to also publicly acknowledge your participation in helping us uncover and fix the problem, and apologize again. I’m sorry. Your patience and participation was key to our eventual success, and I know that was terribly frustrating!

    Best Regards,
    Mark

  3. Hi Mandy,

Are you’re account has been fixed? I read your concern and gotten curious that must have been a very frustrating experience. I hope this was resolved and everything went well.

    cheers! 🙂
