Simple ways to better your hiring processes

A new report reveals only 27 percent of small businesses plan to hire employees in the next six months. This means better hiring process and a stronger company culture should be at the top of every company’s 2013 resolution list. Since a business is only as strong as its employees, a strong hiring process is a company’s chance to bring in the top talent to push themselves to a new level.

Revamping your hiring process doesn’t have to mean completely trashing your old one. Here are a few simple ways to amp up your candidate search in 2013 and ensure you’re attracting the best of the best.

Market Your Company Culture

Company culture is a huge concern for job seekers today. With so much time spent at work, many individuals specifically seek out companies that provide a culture matching their own. Placing a strong focus on marketing your unique company culture to potential candidates is an easy way to catch the attention of top talent.

Marketing your company culture involves a genuine effort from the entire company. If you’ve established a strong company culture, it will be worth boasting about. From the CEO down to administrative assistants, every employee should be able to express the unique and valuable culture your company offers.

Write Better Job Descriptions

One of the easiest ways to refresh your hiring process is by focusing on creating better job listings. How are your candidates supposed to truly know if they’re qualified for your position if you put together a bare-minimum job description?

You want to sell your company, your company culture, and the position, but you also must give potential candidates enough information to truly assess whether they’re a match. Create a knockout description for your company and the position you’re listing. This means placing a strong focus on company culture and highly-detailed job qualifications. Content is key when it comes to an effective job description. If boosting your hiring process from start to finish is necessary, then do it. The extra time it takes will be worth it in the long run.

Utilize Niche Job Boards

Where you post your listings has a lot to do with the talent that you bring in. In 2013, spend time evaluating where you’ve found your top talent and look to recreate that path.

Aside from inside referrals, niche and regional job boards are great places to find qualified candidates for your positions. When you post a listing on a niche job board dedicated to your industry or the position you’re interested in filling, it is in direct view of the individuals with the likelihood of having the most skills for the position. Niche job boards also offer smaller candidate pools to ease your hiring process.

Embrace New Interview Tactics

In 2013, it’s time to assess your hiring process especially interview practices. Are you really going above and beyond in terms of learning what a candidate can bring to your company?

Rather than focusing on the standard resume review, phone screening, and face-to-face interview in your hiring process, try to look for new ways to learn about your candidates. Many companies are embracing technological advances and using video interviews to speed up and advance their hiring process. Make an effort to find new ways to meet your candidates.

The new year is a time to set new goals for your company. Let an amped up hiring process help your company to find candidates that can take your company to the next level in terms of success.

How are you changing your hiring process in the new year?
