Last week I not only defined technologically unemployed and gave you five jobs that are obtainable by this specific class of people. As promised I have come back with the last set of jobs.

Just as a refresher these are jobs that will be created by technology that will end up helping people who have found themselves unemployed as a result of technology. The phrase for that is technological unemployment. Many people think that we will develop a class of people who will never work again as a result of technology, while I am of the school of thought that technology will create as many jobs as it takes over. We as employers or a society will then have an obligation to make sure people get the necessary training to be functional in these new jobs. Here are the remaining jobs from the original list.

Five more jobs for the technologically unemployed

Healthcare Navigator

With the advent of the Affordable Care Act there was a position created called the Healthcare Navigator. It was specifically created to help people get through the monstrous healthcare enrollment process. The position I am talking about here is a broader position. As disease management and healthcare options become more complex there will be people who will be there to help navigate through the many options of care, doctor, treatment, medicines and more. I have had some minor experience with just such a position this last January when I fell on ice and severely injured my left leg. My wife’s employer has a company that helps employees and families find the best physician in their area for their specific problem. I was glad they did for me.

Nostalgist

It is no secret that as people age they tend to hold on to the things and ways they had connected to in their younger days. With Baby Boomers turning 65 at the rate of 10,000 a day there is plenty of opportunity for people who want to help those aging folks be more comfortable in their surroundings. Many older people have been very accepting of technology, but many have not, and they talk about the “good old days.” A nostalgist will “help elderly people design environments where they feel at ease, help with them activities of daily living, and be an empathetic social outlet for them.” There will be a lot of work for people focusing on some aspect of geriatrics.

Telesurgeon

This jobs already exists today, it is just not done very much. The robotic equipment is prohibitively expensive and there is not sufficient training. That will change. The cost of equipment will come down. In fact nanorobotic equipment will be created to allow surgeons to perform surgery from around the world. At a time when the number of doctors and surgeons is going down this may allow healthcare delivery to expand by just having a qualified facility available.

Solar Technology Specialist

As solar technology increasing in ability and decreases in cost there will be an ever greater demand for people working in that arena. Solar technology has already made its way in to numerous applications, including the development of solar roadways. This is a fascinating development that could fuel many future jobs.

Aquaponic Fish Farmer

As the world seas get over fished and species disappear there is no lessening of the demand for what is considered to be one of the healthiest sources of protein. What better way to create a sustainable source than to turn to “fish farming” or aquaponics. This technology has been around for a long time, but as the technology of doing it gets better we will be able to increase the output in order to meet the growing demand of an ever increasing world population. Your child like keeping goldfish? There may be a future there for them.

There you have it another five jobs that will help replace jobs that will be lost to technological unemployment.
