Episode 27: How HR Can Think Like a CEO with Libby Sartain (@libbysartain)
There is so much conversation and discussion around how HR can get more buy in from the executive team. I’m a fan of going straight to the source and someone who has the experience of getting that executive buy in and building those relationships. That person is former HR VP of Yahoo and Southwest Airlines, Libby Sartain.
CHRO’s Responsibility to the CEO and the BOD
In this episode of the Workology Podcast Libby walks us through how to think more like a CEO. She shares with us their interests and priorities when it comes to human resources. She talks with us how HR can think like a CEO. During the podcast recording, Libby pointed out that Chief HR Officers (CHRO) like the rest of HR will always have a dotted line for reporting. Chief HR Officers, while they report directly to the CEO also have a responsibility to their board of directors. They brief the board on the performance of the organization, talent initiatives as well as the performance of the CEO.
HR, regardless of it’s role within the organization, is a tricky role to be in. Libby shares with us insights into what matters with for the CEO and how to anticipate the CEO’s questions, objections and concerns about your current and future HR and talent management strategies. The key she says is that to remember that talent is the common link. Take a listen to the podcast and be sure to connect with Libby Sartain on LinkedIn.
