Facebook as a Candidate Pipeline and Recruitment Source

Table of Contents

I mentioned this week that in the US, we spend a collective 100,000 years a month on Facebook where we connect with friends, share stories, connect with our favorite products and brands, and even look for a job.  And yet only 23% US Recruiters use Facebook as a recruiting and candidate source.

Facebook as a Candidate Pipeline and Recruitment Source

There is a huge opportunity to engage, develop relationships and share employment and career opportunities with your company on Facebook.  Facebook doesn’t lend itself to great sourcing.  Third party tools aid in search but are still early in development.  So why not take advantage of your current Facebook Fan Page base your marketing team has worked so hard to build and share with those raving fangs about opportunities for employment at your organization.

In the recruitment industry, there is much discussion over the topic of employment branding.  Like a consumer and product marketing, employer branding can establish recognition among target job seekers and a relationship with a candidate passive or active that was not there before.  For those companies that have an already established Facebook Fan Page for their brand, having a careers or now hiring tab on their page is a no brainer.  TweetMyJobs helps with this making the functionality clean and easy to use allowing HR and Recruiters to work directly with their company’s Marketing teams.

Using Facebook in Your Hiring Strategy

That’s exactly what TweetMyJobs new Facebook App offers companies the opportunities to do.  In literally under 5 minutes, you can have a professionally designed careers tab for your Facebook Fan Page that is customized, streamlined, and easy to use.  The only requirement to setup is that you have must be a page administrator.  Best of all the app offers both a free version and paid option.  I’ll speak to those in a minute.

Recruiting with Facebook Timeline

TMJ’s career app can be used in any Facebook Fan Page and is not solely limited to only company fan pages.  Fan Pages that are career pages like the Geico Careers Facebook Fan Page you see pictured work well.  I see a huge opportunity for non-profits and professional associations to take advantage of the free hiring app looking customized with little effort.

One of my favorite pieces of TMJ’s new Facebook recruiting and career app is the Google map which provides insights into the location of job openings.  Search functionality is available on both free and paid versions and job seekers can sign up to receive job alerts with an opening meets their specifications.  These is extremely important since job openings are only listed within the app and not in the main fan page feed.  Did I mention that the app was designed with the new Facebook Timeline format in mind?

The free version which is available to anyone does have limitations.  Job openings have to be posted manually with the paid option allowing for openings automatically posted using an XML or RSS feed directly from your company’s applicant tracking system.  For larger companies or those that have a number of job openings, this really allows for recruiters to focus on less administration and more candidate interviews.

  1. What a pleasant surprise to see GEICO’s Career page in this post! (I manage GEICO’s HR social media presence and LOVE this.) Thanks, Jessica and TMJ (Mira, Gary and Robin)

  2. I’ve been kicking the tires, without actually pulling the trigger on Tweet My Jobs for a while now. I’d tried Work4, paid version, on a Facebook tab for a while and was distinctly underwhelmed. It brought in a low number of applies and didn’t encourage CV uploading, at least not from what I could tell from the high percentage of applies that arrived in with no CV. This just created work. We solved that problem using an RSS hack taking a feed of our jobs from our job board and putting them on a tab. Again the results haven’t been spectacular but it’s free and the problem of the CV-less apply has disappeared. In essence I’m wondering what TweetMyJobs has that Work4 doesn’t and, for the Enterprise version, have you any idea as to cost?
